THE CITY OF AALBORG
Aalborg is the fourth largest city in Denmark, and the capital of North Jutland. In the last decade, Aalborg has been redefining its identity in terms of culture and tourism – from being a typical industrial city to becoming a modern city full of contrasts and exciting experience offers. This transformation is especially being manifested in the rejuvenation of the water front, and when entering the city by water, one is being welcomed by the sight of world class architecture and exciting recreational park areas.

Sublime Views to Endless Cornfields
Approaching the city of Aalborg, cruise ships must set out on a two-hour sail on the waters of Limfjorden. This fjord cruise will reveal the beautiful Danish rural landscape, with corn and rape fields stretching to the banks of the fjord and medieval village churches with characteristic belfries picturesquely embedded in the scenery, resembling the best of landscape painting from the Golden Age. An experience one does not want to miss out on.

World-Class Berthing Location
When arriving, cruise ships will berth at the new pier, Honnørkajen, which has been built especially for cruise ships. The pier is no more than 100 metres away from the very heart of the city, thus making it remarkably easy for guests to experience the many offers of the city. Despite the title as Denmark’s fourth largest city, Aalborg is still grand on a manageable scale, and within easy walking distance from the pier, one will find modern and medieval architecture in perfect harmony, charming pedestrian streets with excellent shopping opportunities, and cosy cafes and restaurants.

The Waterfront
Aalborg is quite fortunate in that it can present the work of two of the great Nordic masters of modern architecture – namely Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and the renowned Danish architect, Jørn Utzon, who actually grew up in Aalborg. On the water front, right next to Honnørkajen, Utzon Center transcends the category of art museum. Its unique fusion of exhibition, education, conferences and culinary experiences makes the centre a dynamic venue for art, architecture and design. Aalto’s KUNSTEN – Museum of Modern Art arises like a sculpture from the rolling green landscape, and forms a beautiful framework for displaying word-class art.

Viking Revival
Feel the presence of history, when visiting Lindholm Høje just north of the city. Here one will meet the spectacular sight of one of Scandinavia’s best preserved Viking burials; with no less than 700 excavated graves – dug out from a thick layer of sand, which has kept the secrets of Lindholm Høje for hundreds of years. The many stone settings that mark the graves are scattered on a hilltop with a beautiful view to the fjord. In the exhibition halls of the Lindholm Høje Museum, the history of the area comes alive with relics and exciting accounts of the conditions of life of the people, who once lived there.

Culinary Experiences
In Aalborg, there is never far between the culinary experiences and one thing that characterises Aalborg's restaurants and cafes is their unique atmosphere. Visit for instance the trendy gourmet restaurant, Mortens Kro, that presents a modern Danish cuisine, or try restaurant Fusion at the water front offering a unique combination of Japanese sushi combined with local Nordic ingredients.
Is the mood more set for a quality beer, a visit to Søgaards Bryghus, Aalborgs very own micro brewery, is a good starting point. Or try Aalborg Beerwalk – the perfect start to a night out with good friends. On this walk, you will have the chance to taste well-poured draught beer in 6 of Aalborg's best pubs.
