Icelandair and Alaskan Air announce Codeshare

Icelandair, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air have entered into a new codeshare agreement and will also launch a reciprocal frequent flier partnership.
The codeshare agreement allows Icelandair to place its code on select Alaskan Air and Horizon Air flights. This means Icelandair customers can book travel from Reykjavik, Iceland, throughout Alaska’s network for travel.

The frequent flier partnership allows Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members to earn miles on Icelandair flights between Seattle and its Europe destination.

HOVERCRAFT

The hovercraft, the most recent form of public transport to be invented, is unique. It operates by means of a cushion of air created beneath its hull which overcomes the natural force of friction that occurs when a vehicle is in contact with land or water. The air lifts the hull clear of the surface over which it is travelling and with the resultant absence of friction very little power is needed to make the hovercraft move.

Fans draw in the necessary air from the surrounding atmosphere and pump it down beneath the hull. The air is then trapped between the hovercraft and the ground, and as more air is pumped in, the upward pressure increases. When the pressure is greater than the weight of the hovercraft, the craft will rise clear of the surface beneath it. The skirt around the hovercraft prevents air escaping, and its bag-and-finger design gives passengers a smoother ride and overcomes the problems of any waves or obstacles that the hovercraft may encounter.

Hovertravel, the only scheduled hovercraft operator in Europe, was launched in 1965 and is the world’s longest running commercial hovercraft operator. Travelling at 45 knots Hovertravel provides the fastest crossing link (under 10 minutes) between Ryde, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth/Southsea.
