Turtle Bay, Kenya’s award winning 145-room responsible resort, located directly on the country’s famous Watamu beach, is becoming even more family friendly! The hotel is planning more connecting rooms across all its accommodation categories so all family members can have some privacy but be just a door away from each.
Last year Turtle Bay was chosen as one of the Best Family Hotels in Africa by TripAdvisor. The all-inclusive resort is well known for its excellent children’s facilities including a popular Kids Club where junior guests get to have fun on the beach and at the same time learn about the area surrounding the resort, its animals, birds and plants.
An impressive new adult’s only swimming pool has recently been opened which means families with children can enjoy the resort’s huge main pool with its special section for toddlers.
Families with older children will also be interested in a new off resort visit being offered this year by Turtle Bay. It involves a visit to Kirepwe Island, once a thriving Arab trading centre in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Kirepwe is the second largest of the three Mida Creek islands of Watamu and the island offers visitors a unique opportunity to meet local villagers and explore unexcavated ancient Swahili ruins.
One of the other projects Turtle Bay guests of all ages regularly get involved in is the Watamu Turtle Watch, a community based organisation dealing with the protection of sea turtles and the marine environment. Regular presentations about the organisation’s work and achievements are held at the resort. Guests can also volunteer to help the resort’s weekly beach clean-up operations. Visit www.turtlebay.co.ke
